Can't believe we are nearly into the holiday season of 2008. Time has really flown by this year. And of course, I'm working feverishly on my holiday menu for this blog. I'm in the mood for sprucing up some traditional dishes. So, look for my future posting later this month or early November for my complete menu. But in other news, I'm building my archival sections so you can find old recipes much easier. I was tossed between archiving by month as well as category but it just creates more work for me and right now I need less not more!!!
Still, I remember what the holidays were like for me. I grew up poor, but my mother's heart was not. We always seemed to have presents around the tree, my brother and I like most kids got up at 3 AM to sneak to the tree and shake the packages trying to guess what was inside. We loved doing that. We couldn't wait till the anticipated day so we could open our presents. I can't remember a single Christmas where I got a toy I didn't want or didn't like. We were happy though it was only us three.
As I grew up, I knew I wanted to keep the tradition my mother started. Even when I was single, I'd cook a 5 course dinner, I'd buy myself some gifts along with my gifts for friends and relatives. I still had the tree with my gifts in front of it. Sometimes I'd forget what was inside some of them. And I'd wait till the day of Christmas to open them. Now that I'm married, it's no different. But Christmas isn't just for presents. It's the time of year that we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Even the Bible says that every good gift comes from above. He gave the ultimate gift by sacrificing His life for ours. No gift can ever outdo that. I'm so grateful to Him for the things I have. Even though problem ensue, monies run out, people die, sickness creeps in and old age in inevitable, the greatest joy I have in my heart is knowing that the Lord is with me through them all.
