Mozzarella Cheese, black olives are great toppings for a healthier pizza
With all of us trying to save money, we still have to eat good right! So, I thought about pizza because it is so versatile and easy. You top it with your favorite pizza toppings and what do you use for dough? Well...we have lots of choices. I use pita bread and oftentimes I just buy ready made dough from the grocery store. But you can also buy dough from your favorite pizza place. It's much less than ordering it! Since my system has changed a lot, making my own food allows me to control how much cheese, what kind of cheese to use, how much salt, what herbs I want, etc. You get the point here. For my toppings? Sometimes, I use lean ground beef and I fry it up and mix a little McCormick's Mild Taco Seasonings on top for a spicy flavor. Other times, I go completely vegetarian and use cheese, olives, and pineapples! Oh you've got to try it! You can even make a dessert pizza using Nutella (italian ice-cream) with some crumbled up Oreo cookies!
You can use ready-made pizza sauce from the grocery store or make your own. It's rather simple to make your own sauce too. For 1 pizza, I use 1 can of tomato sauce (italian flavored), a few squeezes of ketchup, 1 teaspoon of tomato paste and then I mix in dry herbs (basil, oregano, parsley). Then I sprinkle kosher salt and pepper. I carefully add a teeny bit of hot sauce because my husband doesn't like anything too spicy. And, all this goes into my blender. I mix it well and set aside. Below are the doughs and breads I use to make my pizzas!
![]() This Pillsbury dough usually costs under $3 at my grocery store, but sometimes they're on sale. I try to buy as much of this as I can to keep extras in my frig. | ![]() I love Wheat Pita Bread, and I toast it in my Panini Press, then add my sauce & toppings ! YUMMO! |
I spread out my dough on my board and roll it out to make a thin crust. Then I carefully transfer it to my pizza stone. If you don't have a stone, just use a pizza pan and spray it with Canola oil first just to be sure my pizza doesn't stick. Preheat oven to 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Put the dough in and bake until just golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes, but check it often because every oven temperature is different.
Bring dough out of the oven and pour the pizza sauce on top. Then add all your toppings! Bake pizza only until cheese is melted, about another 5 to 10 minutes. Serve! Now check out these pizzas! I bet after your mouth waters, you'll rush to the store! Bon Apetito!

Add Smoked salmon, green peppers and Mozzarella balls

Toppings are Proscuitto, with mozzarella balls, and a little simple rucola
salad (tossed with cherry tomtatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper) to go with

A truly vegan combination, black olives, tomatoes, green peppers

Another veggie version with corn, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, and
onions over mozzarella cheese
Note: If you're interested in purchasing a pizza stone, I highly recommend it. Nothing taste as good as bread baking on stone. Check out some in my store by clicking here!

What beautiful pizzas! I too have become a fan of Pillsbury's ready made pizza crust for making pizza on the spur of the moment. Have you tried their thin crust version? I used it to make a Mostly Wild Mushroom Pizza!

Great idea Terry, I'll make a point of buying that next! Coming from Chicago, one thing I loved to eat there were the pizzas from Gino's East!
