A Steak Dinner for Hubby

Category: meat lovers, veggies | Difficulty: easy

Every once in a while hubby wants a good steak dinner. Now I know my veggie friends are going to freak out but hold on a minute...If he eats steak, I always make sure he eats veggies with it to balance it out. And a little confession...every now and again I can go for a good steak too or maybe I'd opt for the cheeseburger! But anyway, all things in moderation and I'm trying to stick to that.

Hubby's usual favorite steak meal is a good ol Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and he really loves D&B's more than any other restaurant we've been too. I might take him to Longhorn Steakhouse and see if he likes theirs but anyway to save money and when he's in the mood for steak, I just make it myself. He works hard and so I don't deny him his cravings - after all he doesn't deny me my sweets! So instead of the cheesesteak sandwich and fries and ketchup and all that stuff, I opted for a beef steak with roasted potatoes and peppers. I hope that meets with my veggie friends' approval! haa haa!!

Garlic Beef Steak

Ingredients:
2 beef rib fillets
4 cloves garlic
1 chili pepper
1 scallion
1/2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1/2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. white grape or apple juice
1 tsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tbsp. cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
Oil for frying

Preparation:
Cut each rib fillet into three equal portions. Prepare a marinade with 1/2 tablespoon vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 teaspoon salt. Marinate steak for 20 minutes.
Mince garlic, shred chili pepper and scallion finely.

Heat oil in a wok or deep skillet, fry beef until half cooked; remove and set aside; stir fry chili pepper and scallion, then garlic. Return beef, add 1 tablespoon juice, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch water. Saute over high heat until ribs are done. Serve.

Roasted Potatoes and Peppers

Ingredients:
1 bag of small potatoes (white or whatever you have on hand); diced
1 red and yellow peppers (sliced)
EVOO
kosher salt
garlic pepper

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a long pan, line with aluminum foil. Drizzle a bit of EVOO on the foil and use your hands to spread, don't overdo the oil, using it just as a coating to keep the veggies from sticking to the foil. Then add the potatoes and peppers and spread around the pan so that everything is even on the pan. Drizzle salt and pepper over veggies and be sure to coat each piece. Then drizzle a bit more oil on the top and roast in the oven for about 30 to 35 minutes or until they are tender to the fork.

Plating:
Put potatoes on the bottom of a bowl, top with a slice of steak and then add the peppers on the sides to make the beautiful presentation. Enjoy your steak dinner!!

P.S. Thank you to all of you who submitted ideas of things you'd like to see me post here, I got some wonderful ideas for upcoming recipes and posts. If you haven't submitted any ideas yet, it's not too late, just comment and let me know what you'd like to see, whether it be specific type recipes or ingredients, giveaways, etc. I'd love to hear from you!

Oh and BTW, I've been playing Restaurant City on Facebook and I am hooked! As a foodie, this game delights me because I can own my own restaurant, design it anyway I like and have my friends run it for me. Since I know I don't want to own one in real life, this comes as close I can get! I just hit level 25 !!

"Heiwa へいわ" (the inside)
(Name of my Restaurant - Japanese word meaning "Peace or Harmony" pronounced HAY-WA)

"Heiwa
へいわ" (the outside)

If you haven't checked it out, play it and see how you like it! Click here to check it out! If you've played it or are faithful as me, tell me so I can add you as my friend on Facebook and so I can visit your restaurant!

Hello :)

I've been seeing a lot of delicious beef, in fajitas, steak, baked, this one is no exception.. now I'm craving beef..

That game looks so cute, but I can only look, I get easily hooked on games like that..happens to me a lot, most recently in Harvest Moon PSP, I have a large kitchen there and spent a lot of time "cooking/trying" diff food combo..

opps, this is long, sorry ..

Hi there, welcome!! I like long messages so don't worry! I guess since you're craving beef, you have to fix some!! hee heee

Yes I truly understand about game addiction, I quit all the other games I was involved in just to play RC because I can't do them all and I have enough going on - you know what I mean? :D

I'd been thinking trying out the game...it's definitely going to be addicting :-D I agreed that if you can't have a 'REAL' food eatery than the online visual is just as good ~ no loss except on bandwidth, time and aching back and butt! Hahahaha! I always said to myself that I don't mind cooking for friends and entertaining but not going to operate or behind any food establishments. It's a tough life and I'm not made for such pressure (I had enough with 1 kid and my previous job as graphic/sportsware designer) again :-P I want to focus on my family now... but occasionally, I would joined in potlucks for the Alliance Française or any Malaysian gathering when I travelled abroad :-P

PS. As always, love and adore you :-) Keep up the great work. I'm hoping to visit US one of these days. Maybe we can meet up, Ok? Keep Touch. Hugs!
